Job Summary
The R&D Manager is responsible for leading the development and improvement of food products across meat, food mixes, bakery, pastry, and frozen categories. The role oversees the full product development cycle, from concept and formulation through scale-up and commercialization, while ensuring compliance with regulatory, food safety, and quality standards. Working closely with cross-functional teams, the R&D Manager translates market needs and consumer insights into technically sound, commercially viable products and builds strong in-house product development capabilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop product formulations and applications across meat products, food mixes, bakery & pastry items, and frozen products, in line with industrial standards, country regulations, and market requirements.
- Lead and manage multiple R&D projects simultaneously, ensuring timely execution from ideation through scale-up and commercialization.
- Coordinate and collaborate closely with Marketing & Sales, Supply Chain, Operations, Quality, Manufacturing, Procurement, Regulatory, and Packaging teams.
- Translate consumer insights, sensory evaluation data, and market trends into viable product concepts and technical solutions.
- Ensure technical and commercial feasibility through cost modeling, risk assessment, and process validation.
- Review finished product raw materials, formulations, labeling changes, specification sheets, and test methods to ensure regulatory and internal compliance.
- Drive cross-functional alignment to deliver consistent, scalable, and sustainable product launches.
- Ensure full compliance with regulatory, food safety, and quality standards, maintaining accurate documentation and supporting internal and external audits.
- Build and strengthen the product development function by developing technical capabilities, processes, and best practices.
- Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing R&D team, fostering innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
Requirements
- BSc in Agricultural Science or a closely related field (required).
- MSc or PhD in Food Science (preferred).
- Proven experience in food product development across one or more relevant categories (meat, bakery, mixes, frozen).
- Strong knowledge of manufacturing principles, raw materials, formulation, and regulatory requirements.
- Hands-on experience in pilot trials, scale-up, and manufacturing support.
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
